Special roles

In Pro Champions Manager, players can have special roles that enhance match effectiveness, providing attribute bonuses when positioned correctly on the field. Each player can hold a special role, which can either be assigned at creation or developed through training, with no difference in function, regardless of the method. Roles are position-dependent, so a player’s designated role must align with the positions they can naturally play; for example, a defender cannot train as a Target Man, and a striker cannot assume a Playmaker role.

Training a player for a role depends on the compatibility of the player’s position and how well their attributes align with the role’s requirements. If a player has strong attributes that suit a role—such as vision, passing, and decision-making for a Playermaker—they will train faster. This system allows managers to leverage a player’s strengths, optimizing training efficiency and making role specialization a key part of team strategy. Role training remains available only for positions that align with each player’s natural fit on the field.

Roles are only active when players are placed in specific positions. For instance, a player with a Target Man role will gain role-related bonuses only when positioned as a forward; if placed in the midfield, the role will not apply. This system ensures managers use roles strategically, considering each player’s optimal position to leverage their full capabilities within the match engine.

Switching roles is also possible; training a new role replaces the existing one. This flexibility allows managers to adapt players to evolving team strategies, though changing roles does require time and commitment, as it erases the previously trained role.

Examples of special roles include Libero for defenders with sweeping responsibilities, Ball Playing Defender for defenders adept in passing from the back, Playmaker for midfielders who create scoring opportunities, Box-to-Box Midfielder for players covering all areas, False Nine for attackers who drop deeper to support the midfield, and Target Man for strikers positioned to lead the attack. These roles provide attribute bonuses aligned with each role's demands, allowing players to impact the game significantly when used correctly.
